Pink Eye

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Allison’s favorite color is pink.  But today she declared:

“I do like pink, but I don’t like pink eye.”

Yep, that’s right.  My sweet little girl has a case of pink eye!  We went to a doctor yesterday when I noticed it.

She’s had four doses of the prescription eye drops.  And each time it takes two of us to pin her down to administer them.  She tries to be cooperative, but just can’t at the last minute.  She’s been promised a magnifying glass from the dollar store if she is somewhat cooperative for a whole day of eye medicine!

The Song We’re Still Singing

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Carter got a Justin Roberts CD for Christmas… so we’re still singing the Willy Was A Whale song.

We even got Nana hooked on it while she was visiting!

We have plans to make Grandma our next victim when she comes to visit us next week…  She’ll leave singing:

And Willy why you want to wive all awone in the desert
When Willy the fact is you’re a whale not a cactus!

Cause For Alarm

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The kids have been playing together nicely and quietly in the backyard for over 15 continuous minutes.

I verified that they are still breathing and now I am going back to my knitting.

Surprise!

“Surprise!” says Carter as he brings me four tiny and non-matching shoes from Allison’s Ariel and Snow White dolls.

Saguaro Cactus Dishcloth

Monday, January 26th, 2009

More knitting!

Jim gave me the idea to try to knit a dishcloth with a saguaro cactus design in it…  I got out my graph paper and took an hour or so to figure it out!  A very mathematical project for a math lover!  I think it turned out pretty well!

Elbow Room

Monday, January 26th, 2009

At mass on Sunday morning, we moved over to make room for another family to sit near us.  Carter, who was sitting between Mommy and Daddy, declared:

Squeezing me!

Apparently his little two-year-old, 30-pound body needs more elbow room than we realized!

Staying Up Late

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Nana and Pop arrived last night for a weekend visit.  They plane got in at 9 pm.  I made a deal with the kids that if they took good naps, then they could go to the airport to pick up Nana and Pop even though it was way past their bedtime.  Both of them took good naps, so off we all went to the airport!

The kids were in jammies in the car and Carter fell asleep on the way home.  Daddy carried him up to bed while Allison got to stay downstairs and talk to Nana.  Pop and Daddy both went to bed and Allison and Mommy got to enjoy some late night Nana time.

Allison was so sweet – showing Nana her ballet moves and her new toys.  She rarely gets a chance to show off without Carter around.  It was really special.

Us three girls finally came up to bed around midnight – with Allison attempting a half-hearted protest of, “I’m not sleepy.”  But she was…

My Little Helper

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

While Allison was at preschool this morning, Carter and I cleaned two bathrooms!  What a big helper he was!  He had a little sponge and would mimic what I was doing.  And he even got his own paper towels to help me “dry sink”.

But I should know by now that helping has it limits when you are two…  He put the paper towels “away.”

Then this happened when he tried to get them back out…

He was adorable.

And we had plenty of paper towels to finish our cleaning work.

On Purpose!

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Allison has discovered that hitting on purpose is a no-no.  When Carter hits her on purpose he gets scolded, spanked, or put in time-out (depending on Mom’s level of exhaustion and perceived severity of the situation).

Allison thinks that on purpose are magic words…  Yesterday she tried this one to get her brother in trouble:

ALLISON:  Carter said stop it.

She was crying, so Carter had probably just said, “mine,” too.  Then she added…

ALLISON:  He said it ON PURPOSE!

How To Make Your Sister Cry – Part 2

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Carter has found a new way to make his sister cry…

He uses the same basic method as the Part 1 of this saga, except now he says, “mine” instead of “no”.

It works almost every time!
