Tower of Pisa

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Carter likes stickers.
He piles them one on top of the other and then declares,

“Tower Pisa!”

Still Sick!

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Here’s today’s installment of the Maruschak Family medical update…

Jim and I went to the doctor today.  The kids came with us but they were there just to play with the toys in the waiting room and jump from the step stool in the exam room.

JIM’S DIAGNOSIS:  Sinus infection.
Treatment: 2 prescriptions
Prognosis: He’ll live

AMY JO’S DISGNOSIS:  Bronchitis.
Treatment: 3 prescriptions (I win!)
Prognosis:  I’ll live.

The kids are improving…slowly.

ALLISON’S temperature is just above 100.  Down from 102+.
CARTER walked in Walmart tonight – hehad been demanding to be carried everywhere for the last few days!

“Sleep Is for Wimps”

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

One of my favorite bloggers, Danielle Bean, wrote an article titled, Sleep Is for Wimps.  She’s a Catholic mother of eight children so she knows a thing or two about sleepless nights!

Check out the article – if you’re a parent, you will certainly be able to relate!

A Nightime “Uh-Oh”

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

A couple nights ago  I was awakened at 4:30 am by my two-year-old son sitting up in his bed saying, “Uh-oh.”  Softly, sweetly and repeatedly

I left my snoring husband and the warmth of our bed to investigate.

The “uh-oh” turned out to be his sheet – which was bunched up at his feet.

He laid down.  I tucked him in and kissed him good night.

Then I went back to bed.  Five minutes later I hear that little voice saying, “Uh-oh,” again.  I repeat the above scenario and head back to my bed…

…with a smile on my lips.

I guess that little guy just needed a little extra love in the middle of the night!

I have been offline for a while due to extreme illness at the Maruschak house!  Here’s a recap of our week…

Thursday 2/19
We picked Grandma up at the airport.  I was excited for her visit and so were the kids!  But Carter didn’t eat a bite of lunch.  When we got home I discovered the reason…  A 100+ fever.

Friday 2/20
This was Daddy’s regular Friday off and we decided to make a trip to the outlet mall – what fun!  That was, until I checked the temperature of a crabby little guy… 102+ degrees.  That night Grandma stayed home with a sleeping Allison while Jim and I took a feverish Carter to the pediatric urgent care.  His fever – over 104 degrees.  We finally got home at 3 am.

Saturday 2/21
With Carter’s fever a bit lower and Jim and Grandma at home, I set off for a scrapbooking event.  When I got home, my sweet little girl was slouched on the floor in front of a chair and Jim and Carter were snuggling together on the couch.  Carter’s fever was 100-101.  Allison’s was 103+.  Allison’s went down with Tylenol and Motrin.  That evening, Carter’s spiked to 105+ and he refused to take any medicine or drink any juice (spiked with Motrin).  He spit out what I did get into his mouth.  So he won himself 20 minutes in a lukewarm tub.  His fever finally came down and he slept for a couple of hours… Then we had both kids up in the middle of the night with 103+ fevers again.  This time Carter was thirsty and drank his Motrin infused cocktail.  After 2 hours of holding them, we got the kids and ourselves back to bed.

Sunday 2/22
All seems to be improving.  Carter’s fever was down and Allison’s would stay down with Tylenol and Motrin.

Monday 2/23
Carter is listless.  His eyes are glassy and he won’t leave his Daddy’s lap.  He sits and snuggles and dozes for hours.  Finally we take him to his doctor, who declares that Carter does indeed look terrible.  The diagnosis is a double ear infection.  Carter gets a prescription and a shot in his little booty.  When we get home, a listless, glassy eyed Allison greets me from her nest among her blanket and pillows on the couch.  She won’t move except to ask for Motrin.  Her fever is 105.3 degrees.  It comes down to 100+ degrees after doses of Tylenol and Motrin, a grape slush and two popsicles.

Tuesday 2/24
Carter sits at the table and plays with stickers!  Then he poops out for a while.  But at least he’s improving!  Allison’s fever seems to be much lower, but we take her to the doctor anyway.  He says her right ear looks like she is “just getting over an ear infection”.  Well, that’s not as informative or helpful as I would have hoped.  But, home we go – no meds, no prescriptions.  Everyone sleeps better that night.

Wednesday 2/25
Daddy comes home early with a fever of 101.4 degrees.  Allison spikes a fever of 102+ degrees in the evening.  No, no, no, no, no…. we were supposed to be getting better by now, right?

Today.  Thursday, 2/26
Allison woke this morning with another fever of 102 degrees.  I got to haul her back to the doctor for him to officially declare that the right ear that was “just getting over an ear infection” now, officially, has an ear infection.  So she gets antibiotics.  Daddy’s on his way home from work right now.

And Grandma?  Remember, this all started the day she arrived…

Her plane left at 12:30 pm today.

Bless her.  She never complained, but you know she’d hoped to do more while visiting us than sit around and watch us dispense medicines to our feverish children.  Still, I’m glad she was here for the few moments when the children perked up and were their normal playful selves!

Allison Says – Smart

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

I’m way behind on blogging…  this is from a month ago!

I am full of plans and questions. I’m very smart. I’m smart as the world.”

And I can vouch for the fact that she is full of plans and questions.  I’m the one that gets to hear them – all day, everyday!

Allison’s Dance Show

My Ballerina

Allison had a little “show” at her dance class today.  It was the last class of this session so they showed us the dance they learned then they had some special snacks.  As always, it was too cute!  Filled with little kids trying to keep up,  but always a step behind!

Here are some pictures of my little ballerina:

Dancing to the song “My Girl”.  Allison had a partner for this dance that got to
spin in toward her, then spin out.  Both of them did a good job!

My Screaming Son

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Carter is having a tantrum right now… So bad that he’s been put in the ultimate time-out punishment “the baby crib”.  –Which is a pack n’ play in the guest bedroom.  And he’s so angry that he’s refused his bunny.

He threw it out screaming, “No hop-hop, please!”

At least he’s polite about it.
