Grumpy Little Guy
OK, the magical spell that made Carter so cute this morning has worn off. He’s just finished a one hour long whining and crying fit that started with fighting with his sister in the swimming pool…
—————-
We enter the scene just as Carter is released from timeout for semi-good behaviour and told to come to the table for dinner. He is whining enough to convince any grandparent that he has been severely tortured…
CARTER: I want snuuuugggggggllllle!!!!!!
DADDY: You need a snuggle? Come here. We’ll have a little snuggle before dinner.
Daddy kneels down on the floor and Carter goes to him for a snuggle-hug.
DADDY: Are you having a bad day?
CARTER: No!
DADDY: Are you tired?
CARTER: No!
DADDY: Are you feeling sick?
CARTER: No!
DADDY: Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed?
CARTER: No!
DADDY: Can you say “no”?
CARTER: Uh-uh.
There is a pause in which I giggle at this all too familiar exchange between Daddy and Carter.
CARTER: I want to go hoooome!
DADDY: You want to go home? OK…We’re here!
CARTER: Uh-huh.
I totally cracked up. Carter seemed contented for the moment and the dinner proceeded without incident. In fact, smiles from the grumpy guy were forthcoming within moments of climbing into his dinner chair.
